The same artwork can look different on different surfaces. First, we need to know the material, its finish and the item's shape. Colour in a photograph alone cannot tell us whether it is suitable for engraving.

A little planning goes a long way
Logos and photographs need different preparation
A crisp logo needs different preparation from a portrait with subtle tones. Include the original file and the size you want. A small online preview can hide flaws that become visible when enlarged.
Contrast comes from the surface
The engraving's colour depends on the particular material and its finish. A reference image helps explain the look you want, but cannot guarantee the same result on another item. If suitability is uncertain, we agree how to check it first.
We assess supplied items first
Coatings, uneven surfaces or delicate details can limit what is possible. For a unique or valuable item, suitability and risks need discussing in advance. Not every item supplied by a customer can be processed safely.

Can you engrave an item I supply?
We assess it based on the material, shape and finish. Send photographs and a description first.
Can any metal or plastic be engraved?
Not every material or surface is suitable. We must identify and assess the specific material before agreeing the work.
Do you also offer laser cutting?
This service covers engraving. Cutting requests need a separate assessment and are not automatically included.
Can each piece have a different name?
Yes, using an approved list. Check spelling, accents and which details belong on each version.
Can you turn a photograph into an engraved portrait?
Portraits have specific requirements for sharpness and contrast. Our engraved portraits page explains how to choose a suitable photograph.

The artwork file is only part of a laser engraving project. The surface, design size, contrast and item's shape all influence the result.
Keep the artwork clear
Fine lines and small lettering behave differently on different materials. Before production, we check the artwork's size and whether the file needs adjusting.
The item and its finish
Photographs, dimensions and material details help us assess feasibility. For an item you supply, we also need to check access to the engraving area.

Names, numbers or a shared business logo need correctly prepared data. The quantity and the variations between pieces help us plan an efficient process.
