A meeting table for 10, 14 or 20 people is more than an oversized dining table. It needs to fit the room, leave comfortable routes around the chairs, support a substantial span and provide proper legroom. Power, USB-C, cameras and screens need planning too — as does getting the finished top into the building. Here is how to approach a large bespoke meeting table without overlooking the details that become expensive later.

How much space does each person need?
For early space planning, an allowance of roughly 60–75 cm per seat is useful to test against your furniture and equipment. A drawing with the actual chairs tells you more than a seat-count formula alone.
For a short meeting, around 60 cm per person may be workable, depending on the chairs. For a board meeting with laptops, papers, phones and coffee, we would lean towards 70–75 cm where the room allows it. Test the intended layout rather than relying on a theoretical seat count.
Include the actual chairs in the plan. A wide executive chair occupies considerably more space than a compact meeting chair.
When a boat-shaped table works well
A boat-shaped table widens gently towards the centre and narrows towards the ends.
It offers more surface area in the middle and can improve sightlines between people seated along the longer sides.
This shape can suit a statement boardroom or hybrid meeting space, although it is more involved to manufacture than a straightforward rectangle. CNC routing helps us reproduce the agreed profile accurately in a timber and resin design.
The versatility of a rectangular table
A rectangular table is straightforward to place on a floor plan and can work well for formal board meetings. Its clean geometry often sits naturally within the room’s architecture.
If you want a natural edge, it can be retained along the longer sides while the ends and connection-module positions follow a precisely planned geometry.
A regular shape also makes sectional construction and joining multiple top sections more straightforward.
Oval and racetrack shapes
An oval shape can make the seating feel less formal and avoids sharp corners.
On a very long oval table, the curved ends reduce the usable seating edge. Include that in your capacity calculations.
An oval can be an elegant choice for a boardroom, particularly in walnut or darker oak.
Designing for hybrid meetings
A meeting room needs to work for people joining remotely as well as those around the table.
Neat’s hybrid-room planning advice considers seating layout, modular furniture, screens, audiovisual equipment positions, lighting and acoustics together. The useful principle is straightforward: furniture and conferencing technology should support the same meeting experience.
Steelcase describes Ocular’s geometry around three relationships: people seeing one another, people seeing screens and cameras seeing people. That is a useful way to review a bespoke layout too, without assuming the table alone determines video quality.
Agree the screen and camera positions before approving the table shape.
Help the camera see everyone
At a traditional long rectangular table, people face one another across the top. A camera on the end wall may see them from very different angles, with some faces much less visible than others.
A tapered or curved table, multiple cameras or a shorter, wider layout may help. Choose the arrangement together with the audiovisual designer and the intended equipment.
The table cannot solve every video-conferencing challenge, but an unsuitable shape can make even a sophisticated audiovisual system harder to use.
Leave room for the presentation screen
If a large display sits directly behind someone at the head of the table, that seat may obstruct the screen or be uncomfortably close to it.
It can be more practical to leave the screen-facing end of the table without a seat.
Plan the shape and seating for presentations as well as face-to-face discussion, not simply for a familiar boardroom photograph.
Put power within useful reach
Without a planned power arrangement, a meeting table can quickly accumulate extension leads and loose adapters.
Steelcase’s Ocular documentation illustrates power arrangements with sockets and USB charging, including options distributed along the table. The exact provision depends on the model and market. For your bespoke project, specify the components and their positions individually.
A bespoke table can accommodate recessed modules, flip-up units or discreet access to power. Select the actual components before CNC routing so that openings, clearances and fixing points match the specification.
USB-C: check the charging capability
A USB-C socket does not, by itself, guarantee that it will charge a laptop at the required rate.
Steelcase’s Ocular training material includes 60 W USB-C and 20 W combined USB-A/C options. That illustrates why the intended charging task matters when choosing a module. Availability and compatibility must be checked for the specific market and device; these figures are not a promise about an Ahoj Epoxy table.
For work laptops, agree compatible charging profiles, sufficient Power Delivery capacity and suitable cables for the devices in use. Specify the destination’s socket format and installation requirements too, rather than choosing a module solely for its appearance.
Keep cable routes accessible
Plan under-table trays or channels for power, data, HDMI and USB connections and the audiovisual equipment. Allow appropriate separation, ventilation and access according to the chosen components and installation design.
Ocular’s published features include an opening for cable routing and a concealed technology-access door. The broader lesson is that maintenance access belongs in the furniture design, not in a workaround after installation.
A cable channel should not obstruct an access panel that needs removing whenever a power supply is replaced. Plan the maintenance sequence as well as the finished appearance.
A central service spine for a large table
A long meeting table can incorporate a central service spine for power modules, cable trays and, where the construction allows, structural supports.
It can be discreet from above or become an intentional design feature, framed by a dark resin strip or metal insert. Keep serviceable components accessible rather than permanently enclosed in resin.
The connections then feel like part of the design rather than a collection of holes added afterwards.
Design support for the full span
A four-, five- or six-metre top presents a substantial structural challenge.
Do not rely on the timber alone. The top’s weight and width, central cut-outs and unsupported spans all need to be considered when designing the base.
A suitably designed concealed steel frame can help limit deflection, provide planned fixing points and support a detachable construction for transport.
Keep the supports clear of people’s legs
An X-shaped base that suits a dining table may be awkward beneath a meeting table for fourteen. Its appearance is only one part of the decision.
Position supports in relation to the agreed seating layout, keeping knee space and chair movement clear.
Whatever the base style, review its position against every seat rather than only the table’s outline. We apply that principle to bespoke supports so that the structure does not unnecessarily compromise legroom.
Allow for natural timber movement
A wide solid-timber top still responds to changes in humidity, even in an office environment.
The metal frame should not rigidly prevent the timber’s movement across the grain.
The fixing design can use slotted holes or another suitable arrangement that accommodates movement while maintaining secure support. This detail deserves particular attention on a large top.
Oak, walnut or ash?
Oak brings a distinctive grain and a confident, familiar character to a contemporary office.
Walnut gives the room a warmer, richer feel, particularly alongside dark metal, leather and acoustic panels.
Ash works well in bright, contemporary workspaces, with its pale tones offering contrast against black or graphite-coloured resin.
For an exceptionally long table, the species is only part of the choice. We also need slabs that can form a visually coherent composition.
How much resin does the design need?
A broad blue river is an option, not a requirement.
In a commercial interior, smoky, graphite, clear or black resin — or a restrained accent drawn from your brand palette — may sit more naturally with the room.
Resin can fill natural voids, frame the central service area, introduce a subtle brand colour or provide one distinctive detail. Choose its role deliberately rather than adding it for its own sake.
Integrating your company logo
A logo can be incorporated through laser engraving, CNC V-carving, a metal or timber inlay, or a resin-filled detail. The method depends on the artwork, material and desired effect.
For a meeting table, we favour understated branding. A smaller mark in the centre or near one end can feel more considered than a large logo competing with every laptop.
At a company headquarters, office coordinates, a founding date or a detail drawn from the product can add a meaningful personal touch.
Can the table include an actual part of your product?
A small metal component, material sample or symbolic object may be incorporated into a clear resin section, subject to a compatibility and process review.
For a manufacturer, this can make the design particularly meaningful: the meeting table contains a genuine element of what the business makes.
The object and material must be assessed for compatibility with the resin and the casting process before the design is approved.
Sectional need not mean standard office furniture
A finely made solid-timber table can use several accurately manufactured sections while still reading as one coherent piece.
Coordinate the grain composition in advance, and check the thickness and fit of the adjoining sections.
Insisting on one enormous top can complicate delivery and maintenance without necessarily improving the finished appearance.
Plan the route into the building
Before manufacture, check delivery access, the goods lift, door openings, turning space in corridors and any permitted delivery hours.
For a city-centre office in Vienna, Munich or Zurich, the final route into the building may require more planning than the road journey from Bratislava.
Packing dimensions belong in the technical plan, not on a checklist first considered after the top is finished.
Trial assembly before delivery
For a complex meeting table, a full or partial trial assembly in the workshop helps check the design before delivery.
This allows the joints, modules, power cut-outs, support positions and fittings to be checked together.
The parts can then be labelled, dismantled and packed in a clearly planned assembly order.
Consider the room’s acoustics
A large hard surface reflects sound.
In a room with glass walls and a hard floor, a substantial table adds another hard surface. Acoustic performance needs to be considered across the room, rather than inferred from the table’s appearance alone.
That does not mean the table must be soft. It means acoustic ceilings, wall panels, curtains and upholstered seating should be considered as part of one coordinated interior, with specialist advice where needed.
Gloss, satin or matt?
High-gloss resin can make an impression, but it also makes fingerprints more noticeable and reflects the room’s lighting.
A satin or matt overall finish can create a calmer surface for a working environment. The final choice should suit the material system and intended use.
Clear resin can retain a sense of visual depth without a mirror-gloss surface, depending on the chosen finish.
A lasting part of your workspace
A substantial bespoke meeting table is usually intended as a long-term piece, not a short-lived fit-out detail.
It becomes the room’s visual centre, shapes the setting for client meetings and contributes to the character of your headquarters.
Invest in maintenance access as well as materials: replaceable power modules, a finish with an agreed repair approach and accessible cable routes make a difference over time.
What affects the price of a large meeting table?
There is more to the quote than the volume of timber.
The budget depends on the selected slabs, overall length, supporting steel frame, CNC work, resin volume, custom geometry, power modules, audiovisual provisions, finish, trial assembly, packing, delivery and installation. Agree what is included rather than comparing headline prices alone.
A straightforward four-metre table may cost less than a 3.5-metre design with complex curves and integrated technology. Length is not a reliable price guide on its own.

For an initial estimate, send the dimensions, required seating capacity, preferred materials and shape, and the delivery country.
Selecting the actual slabs, fittings and technical components allows us to refine the quote.

What size table do we need for ten people?
Around 3–3.6 metres can be a starting point, but the chair widths, seating arrangement, base positions and room determine the final size.
How much space should we allow per person?
Around 60–75 cm along the edge is an initial planning allowance. Check it against the actual chairs, equipment and desired comfort.
How much clearance do we need around the table?
Around 105–120 cm from the edge to a wall or obstacle can be a useful initial allowance where people need to pass behind chairs. It is not a universal minimum: verify occupied-chair space, accessibility and escape routes for the actual room.
